The solo exhibition "Already" by Liu Gangshun will be presented at Platform China Contemporary Art Institute in the Space A on March 8, 2024. This is another special presentation following "All" in 2017 and "A Personal Anthology" in 2020.

In an uncertain era where every encounter seems to stand at a crossroads, we find ourselves constantly searching for a sense of certainty amidst the unknown. Doubt itself may become the true inevitability when certainty cannot be found in reality. When this choice falls into the hands of Liu Gangshun, he reconstructs past experiences through reading, serving as a means for continuous engagement with the world and the mind. To understand his works, we may first need to comprehend his working methods. His creative content and source materials are extensive, with a convergence of information dissected, reassembled, and connected through extensive reading. They travel as thoughts and outliers, lingering in consensus without leading to a definite conclusion.

Liu Gangshun always positions himself in the present tense. He often creates a stagnant time and space in his works, a state that is continuously elongated and magnified. His deductive method is not linear, but rather diffusive, generating ongoing and normative doubt. This state of suspension is a means for him as an individual to cope, and from it, we can glimpse the context that gives rise to this "already" reality.

Reading and painting are his way of life, yet his painting presentation does not dwell on aesthetic sedimentation and reminiscence of images, but leads to the intertwining convergence of current psychological states. The ever-evolving technology and constantly disrupted order have made correctness and standards perpetually challenged. We enjoy more choices yet face broader confusion than ever before. Change, in an exponential manner, mutates like a genetic mutation at a certain point, rendering the need for pursuit obsolete.

As the artist inscribed on the back of the artwork "Shifting" (2022), "You can color the world in any way you want, whether it is an imaginary realm or a real place."
