Shi Jinsong approaching project in Dubai – “INNER GARDEN”

Shi Jinsong and Platform China will be collaborating on a new project for this year’s Art Dubai from the 20-23 March 2013, commencing Platform China second participation to the art fair.

Selected among Art Dubai Commissioned Projects 2013, Shi Jinsong’s installation evolves around the idea of reproducing a courtyard infused by tradition and modernity, a space where elements of both private and public life are intertwined with one another. In fact, paying attention to vases and objects which structurally contain an enclosed space, such as spirit bottles, perfume flasks, or even bullet cases, the artist will shatter or cut them into pieces, using the fragments and then turned inside out with the inside of the convex shapes facing outward instead. Using multi-purpose glue and golden copper thread (metal fragments can be welded to one another), the pieces are assembled together freely to create a fantastical, sparkling and translucent shape.
